Donald’s Obituary
Donald Matthew Snow, 94, of Villagedale, Nova Scotia, passed away suddenly in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on October 1, 2021. Born on July 1, 1927, in Newburyport Massachusetts, he was son of the late Ray and Jessie (Elliot) Snow. He is survived by wife Annette Hudson; sister Barbara Hardy; children Dawn Hatcher-Heisler, Michael Snow (Deanna), Paul Snow; grandchildren Amy Winters, Beth Noel (Marcus), Mark Hatcher, Jesse Snow, Shauna Atkinson (Jordy), Tyler Snow (Suzanne); great grandchildren, Claire Winters, Rae Noel, Bronson, Coben and Deegan Snow, Maisie and Jack Atkinson; many nieces, nephews and close friends near and far. He was predeceased by son David and wife Claire (Smith); brothers Walter, Fraser and Vivian Snow; sister Ruthie LaTour; son in law Ken Heisler.
Donnie was a local businessman with a strong work ethic. He established DM Snow Contracting Ltd., over 65 years ago. He had a strong sense of community and took great pride in serving others. He was a founding member of the Barrington Curling and Kinsmen clubs. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Philadelphia Lodge 47 (32nd Degree Freemason), the Shriners and the St. James Wesley United Church. Donnie lived his life with intention, never missing an opportunity for travel or adventure. He had an unwavering love for the ocean and spent many years sailing in the Barrington Bay (on his sailboat “Seasick”) and abroad. Donnie pursued many interests; he was an avid hunter and a talented oil painter. He valued hard work, community, faith, and above all – family. We will fondly remember his generosity, sense of humour, and stories from his many adventures. A family graveside service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery, on Monday October 11 at 2pm, Rev Brenda McCurdy officiating. An informal open-house celebration in Donnie’s honour will take place in July 2022. Memorial donations can be made to St. James Wesley United Church. The family would like to sincerely thank the nurses of Yarmouth Regional Hospital Outpatients for their kindness and compassion. Online condolences may be left at www.huskilson.net; special memories you wish to share with the family may be emailed to carriebethhatcher@gmail.com.
