Passed away in Cobourg, Ontario on Dec 28 /2020 at the age of 86 due to dementia related issues.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland to John and Annabella Grant (nee Smith), along with his siblings John (deceased) and Nancy. A lifelong (frustrated) Rangers fan, he grew up in the shadows of Ibrox Park until he started his tool and die apprenticeship for Rolls Royce in the late 1940’s.
Served in the RAF on Thorney Island in the mid 50’s, maintaining the plane engines, playing trumpet and piano in the amateur jazz band, and trading letters with his sweetheart Irene Hackston . They married in 1958 and had three boys, Ian, Colin and Andrew. Andrew was born after their emigration to Canada in the 60’s.
Toolmaker by trade, musician at heart. He made folks laugh, scared the cat with trumpet playing, cursed things “in the name of the wee man”, read the sheet music while listening to classical, enjoyed a shot of “medicinal” whisky, was a great dancer, and built a lot of things with his hands. He also worked hard to help raise the boys.
He is survived by wife Irene, their 3 boys, daughters-in-law Robyn, Angie, Cheryl, and grandkids Rowynne, Alexander, Gavin, Malcolm and Fiona.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation.
