He was a proud Merchant Mariner, Veteran, and Lifetime Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #150 in Arichat. His comrades at the legion were also part of his family. We would like to thank President of the Legion Donald Goyetche and all Legion members past and present for all their kindness over many years. Your kindness will forever be in our hearts.
A dedicated sailor for over 43 years spending over 27 years on the M/V Maplebranch. He worked as a Marine engineer on ships until he retired in 1983. Dad had a heart of gold. He was always ready and willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need. He was known as Mr. Fix-it because he had the ability to find a solution to fix anything and usually had the part you needed or something that would fit. Later in years when they invented glue guns and duck-tape he found many new uses and often shared his ideas and creations. He was a great storyteller and always enjoyed telling stories of the older days. He also loved a good sea story and once you sat down with him and let the lines go he could take you to many ports all over the world with stories. Dad always loved a good laughing and prank. He was known to have played a few (OK many many) and we are sure some are yet to be found.
In the days living in his own home, he could always be seen tinkering in the yard, Some people would say, “You know spring has arrived when you see Alcide putting a fresh coat of paint on everything outside”. He also enjoyed a good game of cards with anyone who had the time and loved teasing when he gave someone a skunk at Crib. He had his skunk trophy always on Stand-by.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home of Arichat. To send word of comfort or share a good story with the family in memory of Alcide please visit www.chboudreau.com. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at a later date when COVID restrictions lift, family and friends can attend and his comrades at Legion Branch 150 can wish him farewell. The family would like to extend a sincere Thank You to Dr. Laurie MacNeil, Dr. Scott MacNeil, and all the amazing nurses and staff of St. Anne’s Center for the exceptional care, thoughtfulness, and kindness given to dad while he was a resident there. You have all shown him so much, LOVE. Your Thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.
