Primeau: David Brian
(September 15, 1933 – May 5 2021)
With deep sadness, we announce that David Brian Primeau passed away peacefully at his home of 56 years in Oakville, Ont., surrounded by the loving presence of his family. Born September 15, 1933 in St. Catharines, Ontario. Son of Joseph and Elizabeth Primeau (Moore). Predeceased by Mabel (Holland), his beloved wife of 58 years, brother Paul Allen, and son Neal. Survived by his sister Nancy Terka (John) and his children Paul Douglas Primeau, Julie Panasiuk (Jim), and Jason Primeau (Jessie Bonisteel). Devoted Grandfather to Joslyn and Jane Panasiuk, and Michael and Joseph Primeau. David graduated from the University of Toronto — first in 1955 with a degree in Engineering Business, and again in 1958 with a degree in Engineering Physics. He began his career in 1958 with Atomic Energy Canada Ltd. (AECL) in Deep River, Ontario. Throughout his 30-year career working on the Canadian nuclear power program, David played a leading role in the reactor physics and safety analysis of virtually every reactor project in the AECL portfolio. His skills and expertise were frequently called upon on the international stage, often meeting with delegates from other countries to discuss the nuances of nuclear safety engineering. By the end of his professional career as the Manager of Safety Engineering, David oversaw a staff of 120, many of whom went on to become senior leaders at AECL and Ontario Power Generation. In 1965, David and Mabel moved from Deep River to Oakville, Ont., and continued to grow and raise their family. From that time on, their home was a beacon of stability and consistency for the family and many close friends. An active member of the community, and an avid sports fan, David coached everything from hockey to soccer over the span of many years. You would often find him catching the Blades games in the old Oakville arena, even as far back as the 1970s. After his retirement in 1988, David pursued many passions and interests. Along with his wife Mabel, he started a picture framing business and his sharp mind helped complete many tax returns for others, even into his final weeks. They were avid volunteers with the Fareshare Foodbank, the Red Cross, and many others. David also did volunteer driving for various programs for seniors. Known for his kindness, generosity, and his commitment to the service of others, David will be missed by all who knew him. A private cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be announced in the future.
