Obituary of Danny Joe Hubbard
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Danny Joe Hubbard on July 27, 2021. He was born in Beatrice, Nebraska on October 9, 1946. Dan was predeceased by his parents, Marjorie Adeline Hubbard (nee Booe) and Elmer Merle Hubbard; stepfather Henry Burchill; and his grandson, Mitchell Harrison. He is survived by his loving wife, Glenda; daughter Shirley (Steve); son Tim; grandchildren, William (Marti), Shannon (Tara), Leah, Briana, Timothy and Spencer; great-grandchildren, Bentley, Madilyn, Adonis and Elyonna; Angie, the mother of Shirley and Tim; brother-in-law Rodney and wife Wendy and nephews Shawn, Darren and Warren.
During his school years Dan lived in Beatrice, Lincoln and York, Nebraska. He loved debate, writing articles for school newspapers and choir. Dan and his mom were active in the Church of Christ.
After one year of college, Dan enlisted in the Navy. The Vietnam War was on and he convinced his mother he would be the safest on a ship. Dan was in the U.S. Navy from December 1965 to December 1969. It was during that time that he started a family. Once Dan left the Navy he worked in retail and eventually decided to return to a life on the ocean, which he loved. Dan was with the U.S. Coast Guard in Tillamook Bay, Garibaldi, Oregon from July 1972 to January 1974. He then moved his family with the Coast Guard to Juneau, Alaska where he served from January 1974 to June 1979. When he left the Coast Guard, he returned to retail work.
In July 1980 Dan met his current wife, Glenda, at a baseball diamond in Juneau. They were married in 1981 and he immigrated to Canada. He worked for the Hudson Bay Company, Northern Division in Whitehorse, Yukon; Peace River, Alberta; Dryden, Ontario and Thompson, Manitoba. A position in collections for the Northern Stores came about in Welland, Ontario, so they moved there. After many years of moving around Canada for Dan’s work, his wife convinced him to return to her original home of Saskatchewan.
Dan and Glenda lived in Edenwold until the end of his life. He enjoyed the small community and volunteering for various functions. Toastmasters was a big part of Dan’s life for years. The Roughriders became a passion of his and he was a season ticket holder. When Dan moved to Canada he discovered the importance of hockey in our family. It did not take him long to develop a love of watching his nephews playing and he also became a big fan of the Edmonton Oilers. Dan enjoyed working with wood and made some funky chairs, signs and many other things. The backyard was his oasis where he enjoyed his coffee and feeding his birds. Travelling where he could enjoy the water (fishing, boating or just walking on the beach) was always in Dan’s heart.
Many thanks to Rodney and Wendy for all their support during the last few years. Palliative Care also played a very supportive role in the last few months, which we are very appreciative of. Thank you to all the friends and family that were there for us. At the end, Dan was in 3B at the Pasqua Hospital. Thank you to the staff there as they were very caring and attentive to us, which made a difficult time easier to deal with.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Danny
