On January 6, 2021 Cor passed away peacefully in his 90th year at Headwaters Health Care Centre, Orangeville, ON. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Catharina (1996). Left to deeply mourn his loss are Anthony (Dawn), Karen (Tim), Mark (Alison) and Miriam (Allen), his grandchildren Jacqueline, Bradley, Corey, Lauren, Katherine, David, Nicolas and Rachel, and his great-grandchildren Rhett and Hennessy.
Cor and Catharina came to Canada from Holland in 1954 and loved their new country. Their greatest satisfaction came from seeing their children graduate from university. Because of World War II Cor received less than 6 years of primary education. By attending night classes for 8 years in Hamilton and taking extension courses (McMaster and University of Waterloo) he attained a higher education. He compiled a family history and wrote a monthly column for the Feather Fancier titled ‘Notes from the Smallhold’.
Cor enjoyed his rabbits, chickens, pigeons, paintings and woodcarvings, but above all his back-yard garden. We will miss his keen sense of humour and his love for his family.
A private family funeral will be held at Hyde & Mott Chapel with interment at Hagersville Cemetery. A special thank you to Dr. Akula, the nurses and staff of E-wing at the Headwaters Health Care Centre for their exceptional care. Donations in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army, whom he admired as the one Christian organization to practice Christianity.
