Clifford Perrun Friday January 29th 2021 avis de deces

The 29th of January was the second Black Friday we had last month. The first was the 8th, when the hospital told us that Dad had cancer and there was nothing they could do about it. We thought we would get maybe three more months with him, but we only got three weeks before Dad passed away on the evening of the 29th. He spent his last days at home, surrounded by his family. We had so little time to say the things we needed to say. I hope he knew what he meant to us.
Dad was 86 years old. He grew up during the Depression and the Second World War. He told the best stories about being a kid in Elmwood even though they made him sound like a bit of a delinquent. Later on he worked for the railway, in the grocery business, and for messenger companies in Winnipeg before spending his retirement in Rock Creek, BC and Ste. Anne, MB. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 60 years and his favourite way to spend a Saturday afternoon was at the meat draw at #9 in Elmwood. Dad was the only member of our family with any musical talent but for some reason we had to twist his arm to get him to play the harmonica. He could whistle better than anyone and apparently he could sing too, but I only ever heard the silly songs. He was handy with the tools and preferred to do things himself rather than paying someone else, whether it was chopping wood, fixing a faucet, tending the garden, or building a porch. He liked road trips and camping and fishing. He was a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, the Leafs, and though he would never really admit it, the Bombers and Jets too. Dad was an imaginative cook who rarely used a recipe. He was better than most on the BBQ and his pancakes are the stuff of legend. Most importantly, he loved his family beyond the words he had to express it. He showed it every time anyone asked him for help and in a great many things that nobody ever asked of him but which he did anyway.
Goodbye, Dad. We miss you more than you would have thought possible.
