Cleon’s Obituary
Smith, Cleon Henry – 78, of Dartmouth, passed away at the Dartmouth General Hospital on Saturday, March 27, 2021. Born on April 28, 1942, he was a son of the late Victor and Irene (Crowell) Smith. At an early age Cleon moved to Halifax where he attended the Halifax School for the Blind. After graduating he continued on as a Senior Supervisor until his retirement. Cleon was a member of the CNIB and Canadian Council for the Blind. He was interested in Special Olympics and assisted with many events. Cleon had a special love for animals and was a volunteer at the SPCA. “Cutie”, Cleon’s fur baby will miss his special attention and love. A special group of friends brought much joy and fun to Cleon, his bowling league of 30+ years, and his crib partners. He is survived by nieces, Gwendolyn, Wendy, Georgina, Norma and families; brother-in-law, Wilbert Newell and special friend, Jewel Atwells. Besides his parents, Cleon was predeceased by his brother, Allen Smith and sister, Lucille Newell. Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 1, at 2:00 pm from the H.M. Huskilsons Memorial Chapel, Barrington, with Pastor Phil Williams officiating. In keeping with Covid guidelines the seating will be limited with immediate family taking priority. The service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend.
