Obituary
Clayton Edward Pachal
It is with great sadness, that the family announces the passing of Clayton Pachal on Sunday, February 7, 2021 after a brief illness. Clayton was the son of Edward & Helen Pachal and he grew up in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. He became involved in hockey at an early age and when he turned 16, he played briefly for his hometown Terriers and then moved out West to play for the New Westminster Bruins of the then WCHL. He was a leader there and captained the Bruins for two of his four seasons.. In 1976, he was drafted in the first round by the Boston Bruins and played his first NHL game with them. He later was traded to the Colorado Rockies. When he returned to Canada, he continued playing hockey in the Wild Goose Hockey League with the Unity Miner’s and Wilkie Outlaws. Clayton went on to work as a letter carrier at Canada Post and operated his own drywall business. Recently, Clayton was able to re-connect with some of his former hockey teammates /friends like Benny Ballingall, Brian Pearson, Norm Garbutt and Lester Cey. He also enjoyed the opportunity to visit with his former Wilkie Outlaw teammates a few years ago at an event in North Battleford. He had a gentle soul that was attracted by kids and animals. He loved magic tricks and was always on the lookout for new ones… After every snow storm, he always shoveled the sidewalks for his neighbours… One of Clayton’s close friends described him as a “salt of the earth kind of guy” and others would describe him as having a great sense of humour and would do anything for you… That couldn’t be more evident in Clayton donating one of his kidneys to his brother Evan, back in 1997. Clayton as predeceased by his parents Ed & Helen Pachal an his brother in law Murray Nagy. He is survived by his partner Cathy Sturch (Cody, Garrett, Renise (RJ) and Myles along with her grandchildren (Andrew, Damion, Shiyann and Jasper). Also survived by his siblings Evan (Jana & Logan) and sister Carolyn Nagy (Trevor) along with nephews Clint Nagy (Carla – Aspen & Colven), Jordan Nagy (Tara – Blayke, Cason, Landon) and Tyson Nagy (Colleen – Frankie & Stevie). Memorial Donations may be made directly to the Kidney Foundation, in lieu of flowers. A private service will take place at a later date. Arrangements in care of Travis Minor – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
