The Robin and the Sparrow
Said the robin to the sparrow,
“I should really like to know,
Why these anxious human beings
Rush about and worry so ».
Said the sparrow to the robin,
“Friend, I think that it must be,
That they have no Heavenly Father,
Such as cares for you and me.”

Clarence Maxwell Lane
July 13th 1937 – January 12th 2021
Clarence, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, slipped gently away from this world in the early hours of January 12th and went peacefully to be with the Lord. Left to mourn and cherish memories forever, are his devoted wife of 62 years, Lucy, their children: Christine (Tom) O’Brien, Randy (Susan) Lane, Claudia (Bill) Sellinger, Karen (Sylvain) Poulin, Cavelle Lane, Rodney (Rhonda) Lane and Kimberley Lane; grandchildren: Justin (Gen), Stephanie, Natasha, Bryn, Devon, Jacob (Susan), Hannah (Ryan), Blake (Jessica), Katerina, Maggie (Nic), Samantha, Joshua, Emilie, Hillary and Clara and great grandchildren: Anna, Nora and Willa. Clarence will also be sadly missed by his siblings: Muriel Pitcher, Annie Waterman and Jesse (Delphine) Lane; sisters-in-law: Emma Bennett, Elsie Reid, Mary (Ray) Wade, along with a large circle of family and friends, including special friends, Roy and Sharon Baggs and Peter Freake. Clarence was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Rose Lane and sisters, Eva Warren and Dulcie Cross.
Clarence is originally from Dark Cove, Gambo. He worked hard his entire life; in the woods with his father, at Goodyear’s store and with Newfoundland Light and Power. Clarence’s pride and joy was his family and it was very important to him that they spend time together. He was as sharp as a tack and his quick wit regularly left those around him in stitches. He was an avid outdoorsman and was never happier than when he was up the river, out the bay or on the pond. On those days, his lunch tin was always filled with Jos Louis, Vienna sausages and Pepsi! He thoroughly loved spending countless hours ice fishing, berry picking, snaring rabbits or sitting by the stogged wood stove at his cabin on Benton Pond. Clarence soaked up life. He was game for anything fun and always took great joy in all he did. He loved sports, game shows, reading, Facebook and keeping up with current affairs. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, word searches and card games. A can of chicken noodle soup and he was happy! Clarence did not like raisins, “black on boiled eggs” and above all, Rod tickling his feet!
As his time on earth was closing in, Clarence said he was “ready to go”, but he “did not want to leave his family”. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love of family, friends, nature and humour. “Pop always smiled when he saw us and cried when we left.” Clarence (Pop) will live in our hearts forever and we look forward to seeing him again.  » See you on the other side, Buddy. ”
