It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Charlie on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born November 20, 1948, in Sydney, he was the beloved son of the late Alex and Florence (Newell) Bedford.
Charlie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and a dear friend to everyone he met. Growing up on Terrace Street in Sydney he always loved surrounding himself with his family and friends. In his youth he played guitar and, with his friends, put together bands to entertain at dances. He spoke of practices in his parent’s living room and playing at the dances in Big Pond. His first job was at Snow White Laundry and Dry Cleaning where he met Lily, the love of his life. It didn’t take long before he proposed. He built her a home on Terrace Street and they remained together there for 51 years. He adored his children, Raymond and Andrea, and spent his spare time playing with them and passing along knowledge. He built them toys and played music loud making every day as fun as he could. He later drove cab for over 20 years with City Wide Taxi. He made many long term friendships with special customers over the years and was known as an honest and caring man by all who got the pleasure to sit in his cab and chat a while. In his retirement his greatest love was for his two sweet granddaughters, Alexandra and Jessica, whom he was greatly proud of. He loved to sit and enjoy the company of his family and his “little buddy”, Gus.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Lily (Cameron); son, Raymond (Deana), Sydney; daughter, Andrea (Vince) Mitchell, Lantz; grandchildren, Alexandra and Jessica; sisters, Kay (Angus) MacDonald, Truro and Ruth (Greg) Boone, Stony Plain, AB; brother, John (Judy), Sackville, NB; and his many nieces and nephews. He loved you all.
Cremation has taken place. Interment will be held in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
