Mr. Charles Ivan
Charles (Charlie) John Ivan, 79, of Chatham passed away on March
11th, 2021.

up loving life, food, family, friends, and adventure.
Charlie was predeceased by the love
of his life, Jean Mary (Low) Ivan, in 2005. He is survived by his siblings – sister
Mary Prada-Paterack (predeceased by brothers-in-law Edward Prada and Stan
Paterack); brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Laurette Ivan; his children –
Cheri Jenkins and her husband Ernie; Mike Ivan and his partner Holly McNea;
Doug Heppenheimer; Brenda Owen and her husband Jay. He will be dearly missed by
his grandchildren – Ernie & Julia Jenkins; Derek Jenkins & Laura

Heppenheimer; Rian Scott; Alexi Scott; his great-granddaughters Kora and Cece
Jenkins; as a well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends

In 1985 Charlie fulfilled his dream
of opening a grocery store, Knetchel’s Dutton Food Market, in Dutton, with
business partner, Luis Leonardes. Charlie became a long-time resident of Dutton
and an active member of the Dutton business community. The people of Dutton
Knetchel’s, later Foodland, became an important part of Charlie’s extended
family. Charlie enjoyed co-hosting staff Christmas parties, golf tournaments,
pool parties at the Ivan home, and the construction of the annual Dutton Food
Market float for the Dutton Christmas parade. Charlie retired from the Foodland
in 2002.
Golfing was his was passion and he
belonged to many golf clubs over the years and he thoroughly enjoyed his
membership at Maple City Country Cub in Chatham. From fabulous vacations to
entertaining at home, Charlie took every opportunity to enjoy life. He loved to
host card parties and family gatherings where laughter filled the air, the
tables overflowed with food, and the slivovitz was readily available.
