Cecil Alfred Reid 19312021

Cecil Alfred Reid
1931-2021
Cecil Alfred Reid – age 90, of
Wallbrook, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 with
his loving wife by his side. Born in Melanson, he was a son of the
late Frank and Lillian (Lymen) Reid.
Cecil was an
active farmer for over 50 years, owning and operating Reid’s
Piggery and Butcher Shop. While picking apples for
Coldwell’s, his size and strength enabled him to pick half a
barrel at a time, which required his employer to build a specially
made basket and ladder for him. Cecil worked for many local companies
including S.G. Levy’s and Sons, Miner Stevens, and Russell
Eagles. Of these years, 23 of them were spent driving an ice cream
truck for Farmer’s Dairy. Upon retirement, he owned and
operated his own dozer for over 30 years, while also continuing his
love for farming.
Cecil lived
a full life and was very active in sports, growing up playing both
ball and hockey, as well as becoming was a proud member of the
Gaspereau Heavyweight Tug-o-war team and an active bowler with the
Acadia Dairy Bowling team. For many years, Cecil and his wife Lorraine
enjoyed going to the Acadia hockey games and could be found either in
Section 20, or on the road with their friend, Lynn, cheering the
Axemen on.
In his later
years, Cecil enjoyed his daily crib games with Kevin, and the extra
competition when his friend Bev would come for a game. He loved
spending time outdoors, going for rides on his 5-wheeler or
snowmobile, and fishing for gaspereau along the riverbank. Cecil could
often be found working in the woods, cutting, splitting, and hauling
his own firewood, which he proudly did well into his later years. He
enjoyed music and sang with the Wallbrook Church Choir, Gaspereau
Choir, Dale Mac Singers, Men With A Song, Lockhartville Church Choir,
and Kings Gospel Choir.
Cecil is
survived by his wife, Lorraine (Pinch); sons, Martin, Melanson; Billy,
Melanson; Darrell (Joanne), Newtonville; Kevin, Melanson; Ronnie
(Kathy), Black River; and Larry (Amber), Melanson; sisters, Faye
(Eddie), New Minas; and Myrna (Albert), Newfoundland; grandchildren,
