Catherine Kennedy 2021

Catherine Kennedy
KENNEDY Catherine (Kay) nee Spratt, April 30, 1926 – June 13, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother Catherine (Kay) at Lakeview Manor, Beaverton at the age of 95 years.
Kay was born in Lindsay, Ontario and moved to Toronto at the tender age of 7. After graduating she worked for several years for the Toronto Dominion bank. She attended St. Clare’s Parish where she met her future husband Bill. She and Bill were married in 1951 and after living briefly in Leaside they later moved to North York and were founding members of St. Timothy’s parish. They had 3 beautiful children together, Karen, Mike and Bill. In 1967 Kay was tragically widowed. She accepted a position as a school secretary for the Toronto Catholic District School Board where she worked for the next 27 years while raising the children on her own.
After 32 years on Dallington Drive she moved to Whitby to enjoy her retirement. She made many new friends in the community and spent time with her neighbours and at the Whitby Senior Centre playing bridge but her true source of joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Nana, as she was known by her grandchildren was always available to babysit and formed deep and memorable bonds with them.
Her last years were spent in Butternut Manor in Uxbridge and finally Lakeview Manor. Beloved wife of the Late William Kennedy. Loving mother to Karen, Mike (Victoria), Bill (Debbie). Cherished Nana to; Mark (Robin), Michael (Sarah), Dan (Courtney), Scott (Deanna), Michael (Angelica), Brittany, Chanel. Loving Great Nana to; Trevor, Aubree, Violet Maria, Sierrah, Grace. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Survived by her sister in law Eileen Kennedy and long-time family friends Anne Doran and Liz Mitchell.
We wish to express our sincere, heartfelt appreciation of the Harbour staff as well as the entire team at Lakeview Manor Long Term Care for their loving care and support over the past five years.
In lieu of flowers donations to Camp Ozanam (formerly Columbus Boys Camp) are appreciated. We encourage you to share your Kay stories on the Holy Cross website under her obituary.
Scott Kennedy passes on the message that Nana will be greatly missed and loved.
Brittany Kennedy, Kay’s eldest granddaughter has a memory to share of her Nana, Nana had a famous quote she always said before leaving and I think it’s a perfect way to say goodbye, so Nana “I’m going to love ya and leave ya.”
In light of the current COVID 19 Pandemic, the family will be having a private Funeral Mass on Tuesday June 22, 2021 at 1:30p.m.
