Obituary
This incredible soul traded in her butterfly wings for angel wings today. Our Mum fought so hard to try and stay with us but sadly it was not to be.
She certainly did not get the life she would have chosen but she most definitely chose to make it her best life. The confinement of a wheelchair along with significant speech impairment from the young age of 20 never slowed Caroline Frances Wood down. She was always finding ways to participate, be involved and engaged in life. She took courses at St. Lawrence College, expressed her opinion on a number of issues in community newspapers and even wrote a letter to parliament once. Mum learned to paint beautifully by mouth and was quite an inspiration to all of us with her truly remarkable determination for positivity.
She enjoyed movies, music, art, the warm sun on her face, visiting with friends, laughing at a good joke and any and all reasons to celebrate or dress up in costume. Mum would often be found rolling and wheeling around the hallways, which earned her the nickname « Crash » much to her amusement, and she sure loved going outside for a smoke break with her best buddy.
She was especially proud of her two daughters, all of her nieces and nephews and absolutely adored her four beautiful grandsons. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and good friend to so many. Her legacy and memory will live on in the hearts of her whole family.
There are no word to express our gratitude for the wonderfully devoted staff and community at St. Mary’s of the Lake and Providence Care Hospitals in Kingston who loved, cared for her and treated her like family for 53 years.
Rest well Mum…and thank you for showing us what real strength looks like. We love you! We know G & G, Aunt Maureen and Uncle Chris have baked your birthday cake, poured the drinks and are ready to get the after party started!!
