Carol Aileen Matthews Pope 19292021 avis de deces

Carol Aileen (Matthews) Pope
1929-2021
With treasured memories of 91 years of a life well lived and
with our hearts filled with sadness, we, the family of Carol Aileen
(Matthews) Pope (Matthews), announces her sudden, but peaceful passing
on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville,
in the loving and grateful embrace of her immediate family. Born in
Halifax on June 18, 1929, Carol was the daughter of James Samuel and
Florence Amanda Matthews. Carol was enrolled in Queen Elizabeth High
School and after graduation, attended the Maritime School of Business.
She was employed at Nova Scotia Power for many years until her
marriage and moved to Kentville with her husband, Art Pope, in 1955.
Mom was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother, always very
supportive, caring and passionate about both her immediate, and what
grew to become a very large, extended family. Carol was always
optimistic at seeing the good in everyone she met. Carol had a special
gift in the way she treated people and how that made them feel. She
was truly beautiful inside and out! Carol was married to Art
for 59 wonderful years, and they shared many successful moments in
life together as parents to five children and were both very active in
the Kentville community, culminating in Dad’s years serving
as mayor of Kentville from 1994-1997. Mom was a gracious ambassador
for Kentville in those years and was a lifetime member of the
Blanchard Fraser Memorial/Valley Regional Hospital Auxiliary for over
50 years. Carol worked at H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home in the ambulance
billing department and then moved to the billing department at Valley
Communications. She also worked as a bookkeeper at Pretti Posies in
New Minas well into her 80’s and was blessed with a
razor-sharp mind and intellect until her death. To say that she aged
gracefully and with style is an understatement. Survived by her
children, Rick (Susan) Pope, Dartmouth; Robin Pope, Halifax; Kim
(Bill) Barlett, Halifax; Jennifer (David) Pope-Waterbury, Kentville;
Scott Pope, Kentville; and by her cherished grandchildren, Adam and
Jessica Pope; Laura, Faith and Andrew Barlett; Jordan and Katherine
Waterbury; several special nieces and nephews; brothers, Bill (Edna)
Matthews and Don (Pat) Matthews. She was predeceased by her loving
husband, Art; parents, James and Florence Matthews, and brother,
George Matthews. Mom would also want to express her thanks and fond
memories to the « Ladies of Melbourne Avenue », her friends
and neighbors Lois, Vivian, Cheryl, Julie and Sonya for many years of
fun and laughter! We, the family, would like to extend special thanks
to the medical staff of the Valley Regional Hospital and the Kentville
EHS for their tremendous professionalism and gentle caring manner in
her final hours. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of
Carol’s life and interment will take place at a later date.
Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital
Foundation or St. James Anglican Church, Kentville. Arrangements have
been entrusted to White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
