Obituary of Carmen Theresa Gass
Gass, Carmen Theresa
On the 26th day of January, 2021 Carmen passed away at Arbour Heights Long Term Care, Kingston, Ontario, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Carmen was 86 years old, born in the Magdalen Islands, November 8 1934. Daughter of Garfeild and Alice MacPhail. Carmen was adopted by her mothers sister and husband Levi and Eva Prest when she was a baby. She was lucky to have 12 siblings from MacPhail side and 11 from the Prest side. That made her the youngest of 24 children. Carmen loved to volunteer any time she could. She loved cooking and baking and made her living doing it. Carmen loved to write poems and songs and won awards from the Poetry Institute of Canada. Looking after people was what she loved and in her later years she looked after the elderly in their own homes. When it came to card playing she was a force to be reckoned with when the crib board came out. Carmen was the wife of the late Roland Gass. She will be missed by her children Marlene Dennis (Alfred) Donnie Gass (Hilda Kennedy), Tracy Gass, grandchildren Ashley McKenna, Samantha MacDougall and Darryl MacDougall and great grandchildren Myah and Riker McKenna and John Hadyen MacDougall (Jax). Carmen was predeceased by her dear friend Gord Woodcock.
She leaves behind loving sister Joyce Donnelly, and also many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at a later date at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Valley
PEI
Special thanks to Arbour Heights for providing the best home away from home you could get.
The doctor, nurses as well as caregivers treated my mother like their own family and as
children who couldn’t be there we are so grateful for the love you gave our Mom.
As an expression of sympathy, a donation to the Alzheimers Society would be appreciated.
Arrangements entustred to James Reid Funeral Home, Kingston, ON
The Secret
I met God in the morning
When the day was at its best
And His presence came like sunrise
From a night of peace and rest.
All day long His presence lingered
All day long it stayed with me
And we sailed in Perfect Calmness
Through a very troubled sea.
Other ships were blown and battered
Other ships were sore distressed
But the winds that seemed to drive them
Brought to us a peace and rest.
I think of other mornings
With a keen remorse of mind
When I too had loosed the moorings
And His presence left behind
So I think I know the secret
Learned from many a troubled way.
You must seek God in the morning
If you want him through the day.
