Obituary
Mr. Carl William Arnold Swanson, of Calgary, passed away at Midnapore Age-Care on September 23, 2021 at the age of 94 years. Carl was born at the family farm in Saskatchewan and moved to Penticton in his youth. Penticton was where he met the love of his life, Doris. Carl and Doris married in 1948 and grew old together, having just celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary. Doris predeceased Carl by a mere 20 days. As their daughter-in-law said, “It is rare to meet a couple with such dedication to each other that the passing of one, causes the other to leave this world in order to be together again.”
Carl and Doris moved to Calgary in 1948, just two weeks after their marriage. Upon arriving in Calgary, they lived with family until they bought their dream home in the community of Wildwood. It was here that they spent their many happy years together and where they raised their sons Larry and Dave. Carl worked at Love Feeds and Swift Feeds before settling in as a caretaker with the Calgary Board of Education. His granddaughter recalls visiting the school with him and how all the kids seemed to love Mr. Swanson.
Carl will be dearly missed by his sons: Larry (Maureen) of Okotoks and Dave (Liz) of Calgary. He’ll live on in the heart of his grandchildren: Tina, Aaron (Natalie), Drew, Lana (Ryan), Trianne, Lance, Gage, Valina, Nicole (Dylan), Alexandra (Lucas), Donald and Emma (Joshua) and great-grandchildren: Braydon, Kaleb, Vera, Fiona, Atlin, Benjamin, Dominic, Sophie and another coming soon. He is also survived by sister-in-law Donna (Ray) Desjardin of Edmonton and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Elsie, sisters Ethel, Millie, Esther, Marion, and daughter-in-law Sandra.
A Memorial service will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, 200 Woodgate Rd. Okotoks, on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 3:00 p.m.
