Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our brother Brian Edward Morrell which occurred at Bobby’s Hospice on Monday, October 18th, 2021. Born 1946, in Saint John, he was the son of the late George and Winnifred (Budgell) Morrell. Brian retired from the Saint John Ship Building after many years of working as a Machinist. He was President of IAM-Local 482 and the Saint John Marine Craft Union. Brian was a member of Royal Canadian Legion-Branch 53, The Buffalo Club, Airforce Club, Sportsmen Club, Main Brace, Saint John Harness Horseman’s Association, Millwrights Union Local 2262, Carleton & York and Adanac. Brian was a dedicated blood donor and recently received recognition for 250 donations. He owned 12 race horses and attended the Gold Cup and Saucer Harness Racing event in PEI for 40+ years. Brian was also a member of the Alpine Senior Fastball Team where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Brian is survived by his brothers Joseph (Lois) of Ontario, John “Jack” (Carol) of Upper Loch Lomond, David (Connie) of Saint John and William (Kathy) of Barnesville; best friends Jim Fennell, Bill Fennell, Gerry Hamilton, Daryl Hamilton, Derm Hartley, Larry Damon, John Foley, John O’Blenis, Tom McGratten, Bruce Maxwell, Jim McDevitt and Eldon Dubee; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Thursday, October 21st from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Legion Tribute will begin at 6 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place from the Fundy Funeral Home chapel on Friday, October 22nd at 10 a.m. followed by an interment at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those unable to attend, you are invited to watch the service online.
Due to the current pandemic and public health restrictions, masks and social distancing are required, and proof of vaccinations and government issued ID are required to attend visitation and service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Brian may be made to Bobby’s Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
