Bradley’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bradley Henry Zavisha at the age of 81 years. He passed away peacefully at the Chinook hospice in Calgary (AB), surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 30th, after losing his battle with cancer.
Brad was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.
He is survived by his wife, best friend, and soul mate of over 51 years, Ann (Moloney); father to Brad (Lisa Zavisha), Calgary; grandchildren, Jordan, Brooklyn and Aidan Zavisha, Calgary, whom he thought the world of; his loving mother Lena Zavisha (Screpnek); brothers, Glen and Wade Zavisha; sister Rachel Bettenson (Terry), as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Bradley was predeceased by his son Vance Tyler; his daughter Allison and his grandson Vance Bradley Zavisha, his father Henry Zavisha, sisters Jean (Moore), and Irene (Kornyk) and brother Patrick « Pat » Zavisha.
Brad was born and raised in the small rural town of Hines Creek, AB. where he was very proud to be part of such a great close community his whole life.
In the fall of 1957, when Brad was 17 years old, a pandemic of the Asiatic flu forced the local schools to close. This led Brad to start working full time at the Zavisha family sawmill. It was there that he was taught the many skills and trades of the industry like welding, machinist, fabricator etc. by his father, Henry Zavisha. He loved the logging part of the industry the most. In spending many hours in the bush, it gave him a sense of peace. He loved the quietness of this environment. He was a good, honest, hard working man and became the president of the Zavisha Sawmills until he retired in 2001.
He loved playing baseball in his younger years. Spent many hours watching the sports he loved, especially baseball and hockey. It was very rare for him to miss a Toronto Blue Jays or Oilers game. Many hours were spent in the rink while he volunteered as a minor hockey manager for his son’s teams. Brad loved woodworking and building furniture for his grandchildren and nieces. He also loved the joy of reading, and was very active in his church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a man of strong faith and integrity. The love of family was his priority. Brad was content in the present moment and cherished his time with family and enjoyed the simple things in life. He enjoyed many morning visits at the kitchen table with his mother, always with a cup of coffee in hand. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Aug 7th, 2021 at 11:00am from St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Fairview (AB) with Father Isidore Onyeka officiating. Prayers will take place on Friday, Aug 6th, 2021 at 7:00pm from Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hines Creek (AB).
