William Wesley ‘Bill’ McClennan of Farewell passed away at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Guelph on Friday, July 23, 2021 in his 88th year.
Husband of the late Jean (Denny) McClennan. Father of Larry and Debbie McClennan of Arthur, Joanne and Greg Evans of Elora, Randy and Chris McClennan of Temagami, Bruce and Kim McClennan of Mount Forest, and David and Theresa McClennan of Guelph.
Remembered by his grandchildren, Jason and Jess McClennan, Adam McClennan and Crystal Hewittson, Shannon and Kevin Kopka, Shawn and Laura Stroh, Justin Lichty, Kris Evans, Mike and Lisa Evans, Tiffany McClennan, Brittany and Kyle Gillies, Brad and Samantha McClennan, Tara and Jim Checkley, Andrew McClennan, Nicole McClennan and Mark McClennan; and by his great-grandchildren Devon, Trevor, Ryden, Jaylynn, Darien, Emily, MacKenzie, Alyssa, Makayla, Austin, Taylor, Jake, Karissa, Myla, Nolan, Madison, Mia, Emma, Liam, Grace, Leena, and Isabelle.
Brother of Doreen Schuler of Mildmay, Wayne and Elaine McClennan of R.R. 2, Palmerston, and Audry McClennan and Brian Triebner of Kippen, and brother-in-law of Bernice Mahood of Fordwich, Ron Denny of Arthur, Barb Denny of Stratford, Shirley Bouman of Brussels, and Phyllis McClennan of Listowel. Will be missed by his dear friend Elva King.
Bill was predeceased by his brothers Jack McClennan and Garry McClennan, brothers-in-law Eldon Denny, Bill Denny, Wylmer Denny, Leonard Denny, Earl Mahood, and Frank Schuler, sisters-in-law Betty Denny, and Doreen Denny, and by his daughter-in-law Marnie McClennan.
Bill was born and raised in Wallace Township.. He attended SS#15 Minto Public School, and took grades 9 & 10 at Norwell High School in Palmerston. While he was a boy, some of his interests were skating, tobogganing and motorcycle riding.
Bill worked for one winter, Sept – Dec 1951 in a bush near Thessalon making skid-ways, and on Feb. 18, 1952, he started working as an apprentice mechanic in Palmerston. He got his Mechanic’s license in 1957 after he moved to Arthur and continued working as a mechanic there.
Bill married Jean Denny, daughter of Alvin and Nora Denny of Maryborough Township on Nov 27th, 1954 and they lived in Palmerston. Two years later they moved to Arthur when their 1st born was 5 months old. Arthur is where they raised their 5 children, and where they purchased their own garage business in 1962. In 1975 they closed the garage and carried on the business which included a mobile home trailer park in Arthur, which is still owned to this day. Bill worked as an arena manager from 1977 – 1985, and enjoyed going snowmobiling and curling.
In 1991 they moved to Farewell, Ontario for retirement, but still owned and operated the trailer park, as well as getting in some hobbies, such as woodworking, antique cars, and a dealership for buying and selling Pellet Harman Stoves. He also learned to play the banjo and belonged to a music group called the “Riverston Ramblers”, entertaining in many places such as nursing homes and churches. He belonged to the Original Gypsy Campers and went camping every weekend all summer.
Visitation will be held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Please schedule a time to attend by clicking on RSVP (below) or by calling 519-338-2441. Everyone attending must wear a mask.
The funeral service, by invitation only, will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 27 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiating. The funeral will be live-streamed and the link available below:
