Beverly Ann Lomond
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Beverly Ann Lomond age 67, our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and cousin on Friday November 26, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Point Edward, December 3, 1953, Bev was the proud daughter of the late Thomas and Ellen (MacMullen) Day. She spent most of her career working with Canadian National Railway in North Sydney, Moncton, Halifax, Montreal, Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Saskatoon. She enjoyed working for the railway and stayed in touch with many of her former coworkers, cherishing their friendships for many years. She later worked for AG Research in Sydney.
Bev is survived by her husband Ken Lomond, a daughter Natasha (Steve) Richard, Ottawa, son Mark Lomond, Montreal, sisters Pat (Alex) Sampson, Shirley (Greg) Tanner, Gwen Day, Jennifer Day all of North Sydney, brothers Tommy (Carol Anne) Day, Sydney Mines, Kevin Day, North Sydney, Robert (Anne) Day and Greg (Joanne) Day, both of Halifax, also surviving are many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Besides her parents Thomas and Ellen Day, Bev was predeceased by brothers Jerome, Gary, Wally, Dennis, Melvin, a brother in infancy, and by her sister Kimberly Day.
Mom was in her element surrounded by the people she loved most in this world. Her home was always the hub of gatherings. She loved any excuse to have the family together, which gave Aunt Bev the chance to spoil her nieces and nephews with whatever treats they wanted.
Growing up, she was an avid golfer. Golfing with her many brothers and sisters at the Seaview Golf and Country Club, taking home the title as the Ladies Junior Champion on more than one occasion. Mom grew up baking for her large family. Never one to follow a recipe exactly, Mom made and beautifully decorated cakes for any occasion. They were always delicious, but never tasted the same twice!
To keep her mind sharp crosswords, cryptoquotes, and Sudoku puzzles were always on the go and always in pen. She loved sewing, making everything from teddy bears to winter coats for everyone. A game night was not complete without a game of trivia that would last well into the night, and typically included a guitar sing-along. Mom loved music and was adamant that we listen to all types of music. She even went so far as to unknowingly take us to a Rita MacNeil concert because she could not accept that Milli Vanilli would have been our first ever concert.
Mom had the sharpest intuition, and was known to tell a fortune or two with cards or runes. She had a knack for making everyone’s future look bright, with or without a lottery win in the cards. She predicted a few babies over the years too!
Mom was the queen of the spontaneous road trip. Driving to new places and exploring on a whim. Some of our best childhood memories involve wrong turns, impromptu trips to Maine with us and our cousins (even getting searched at the border!), camping in wicked thunder storms, or whale watching in Grand Manan. We drove from coast to coast across Canada, determined to see it all together. We will miss these adventures dearly.
The family would like to extend its gratitude to the staff at the Renal Unit in Sydney, and to the nurses and doctors in the Cape Breton Regional ICU.
A visitation for Bev will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Covid-19 requirements call for proof of vaccinations, photo ID and the wearing of masks when attending the visitation. A private family burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial donations may be sent to the Kidney Foundation of Nova Scotia, 1550 Bedford Hwy, Suite 710, Bedford, NS B4A 1E6. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com .
