Douglas, Bertha Leone – River John – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bertha Douglas from Louisville Road, River John, on April 8th, 2021 at the age of 92. Mum was overcome with cancer and suffered the effects of early stages of dementia. Born in Cape John on May 5th, 1928, she was the youngest of a family of seven. She is survived by her husband, Colin, of 71 years; daughters, Shelley, Vancouver; Cindy, and her husband, Dale Henderson, River John; Elexa, Amherst; Son, Richie, and his wife, Glenda, Dartmouth; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, David and Margaret Zinck; son, Barry; son-in-law, Frank McLean; brothers, Aubrey and Rollie; sisters, Vera, Elsie, Daisy and Thelma. Anyone who knew Mum knew she was a very hard worker with a kind heart. She loved her garden and making pickles and preserves. She also had gifted hands when it came to knitting, crafts, sewing and especially enjoyed making quilts. She was most proud of her family and enjoyed visits from her many nieces and nephews and friends. She loved getting letters and would often read them aloud for everyone to hear. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew her but never forgotten. She was an active member of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Middleton. A special thanks to all the staff at the Willow Lodge who were so kind to Mum. Arrangements have been entrusted to Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche (902-657-3288). A private graveside service to be held at a later date. No visitation as per Mum’s request. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Willow Lodge or the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital.
