Obituary of Barbara Fougere, Harbourstone, formerly New Waterford
It is with great sadness that we the family, announce the sudden passing of Barbara Fougere on Friday March 26th, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney with family by her side.
Born in 1943 in Amherst NS to Neil and Maple MacLean, Barbara was raised in New Waterford and attended Central School. Barbara was Mom to five children: Michelle Leighton ( Peter ), Neil Fougere (Milinda), Keith Fougere (Darlene), Sherri Fougere (Danny) and Aleshia Fougere (deceased) who were the light of her life. Her love for them was unconditional, adoring each one of them and also her grandchildren.
Growing up, Barb’s siblings recall many days at her house enjoying a game of cribbage and a full house for dinner.
Barbara was known to be a very kind person and spoke only of the good in everyone. She could light up the room with her infectious smile and joyful laugh. She overcame hardship and illness with accepting grace. She will always be remembered for her great hugs and phrase “you’ll never know how much I love you!”
Along with her children, Barbara is survived by siblings Irene Curnew, Trevor MacLean (Patricia), Sandra Rizzato (Raymond), Elizabeth Church, Allan Mac Lean, Debbie Marsh (Billy), Ella Bieber (Jorge), Jane Boisvert (Michel), Frank Mac Lean (Lene), Clayton MacLean (Cathy) and Richard MacLean (Karen). She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
Barbara was predeceased by daughter Aleshia Fougere, parents Neil and Maple MacLean, brother Billy MacLean, sister in law Tina MacLean, sister Brenda Jane MacLean (in infancy) brother in law Garnet Curnew, and nephew Gordon Curnew.
Many thanks are extended to her care givers at Harboustone Enhanced Care. Also to the many nurses and doctors at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital who attended to Barb in the most caring and professional way.
At this time we also remember our Mom, Maple MacLean who until her passing cared for Barb. After Mom’s passing Irene and Sandra happily assumed her care. She will be greatly missed by both.
In memorium donations can be made to Alzheimer Society of NS, NS Mental Health Society or charity of one’s choice.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, New Waterford. A parent’s love for their children reflects God’s love for us. May God keep you, Barb, in his loving care always.
