Aubrey Smofsky
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Aubrey Smofsky, on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at the age of 95 years young. Beloved husband of the late Frances Smofsky (Ghent). Loving father and father-in-law of Allan Smofsky and Alison King, Sandy Smofsky and Alain Cote, Lenny Smofsky and Franca Romano. Adored grandfather (Grampy) of Adriana, Alexandra and Cameron, Sabrina and Peter, Ariella, Nathan and Pamela. Loving baby brother of Bernice, the late Irving and the late Lawrence.Born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Aubrey spent his childhood and teenage years in Newcastle, N.B (now Miramichi). His life was a series of adventures – joining the Navy in WWII at 18, working in the family Fish business in Shippagan, New Brunswick, and eloping with Frances, to name but a few. The family settled in Montreal in the 1950s, where he became a Real Estate entrepreneur, and subsequently a renowned Antique dealer, partnering with our mom. In recent years, he became active in the Côte St-Luc men’s club and was an avid bowler and poker player. Right up until COVID hit last year, Aubrey volunteered at Mount Sinai hospital, and, as he would say, despite being in his 90s himself, “to help the old people get to their medical appointments or activities.”
Aubrey/Dad/Grampy will be remembered by all whose lives he touched… for his integrity, honesty, his always being there for us all, and his poker bluffs. Private graveside service.
