It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of
Arvid Landva, Ph.D., P.Eng., on 4 May 2021 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers
Hospital. Born on 30 July 1930 in Drammen, Norway, he was
the son of Margit Winnaess and Einar Larsen, also of
Arvid brought his young family to Canada in 1964, expecting
to stay only 18 months, but he never left. A geotechnical
engineer, he moved to Fredericton in 1965 to become resident engineer
for the construction of the Mactaquac Dam. This led to a
well-regarded teaching career in the Dept of Civil Engineering at UNB,
where he stayed until his first retirement in 1995.
Consulting positions with several local firms kept him busy
technically until his second retirement in 2018. Throughout
his life, classical music and the violin were his
Arvid is survived by his sons Jorn Landva (Betsy) of
Dartmouth, NS, and Petter Gunnar Landva of Fredericton; granddaughter
Karin (Ethan Green) of Dartmouth, NS; sister-in-law Marit Mooers;
nephews Arne, Erik, and Morten in Canada and nephews and nieces Trond,
Jon, Guro, Gjerd, Anne Marie, and Einar in Norway; and his companion
Susan DeWolfe of Fredericton.
He was predeceased by his parents and his first wife Jorunn,
as well as his brother Gunnar and sister-in-law Reidun Larsen, and
brother-in-law Carl Mooers.
A special Thank You goes to the doctors and staff at the
Chalmers Hospital and at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their
care and concern in looking after Arvid over the past two
