Arthur Art Stewart 1943 2021 avis de deces

Stewart, Arthur Mervin « Art », 78, of Linwood,
Antigonish County, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2021 at St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, with family by his
side. His 3-year battle with cancer came to an end as dad let go with
faith, courage, and strength.
Dad was one of eight children of Joseph Adrian and Catherine
Louise (MacDonald) Stewart. He was a loving and loyal
husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, father-in-law, Godfather,
friend, and neighbor to many. In a world of changing times, Dad was
our constant.
Dad is survived by the love of his life and wife of 51 years,
Linda (Pettipas) Stewart, his daughter Raylene (Jamie) Chisholm of
Cape Jack, and his son Jody of Linwood; 6 grandchildren who were his
true pride and Joy: Kelsey (Tanner), Mitchel, Josie, Thomas, Denver,
and Kessel; brothers, Sheldon (Basia) Stewart, Ottawa; Martin (Bev),
Jimmy (Angie), and Angus (Andrea) all of Havre
Boucher.
He was predeceased by brother, John Stewart; sisters,
Adrianna and Emily; mother-and-father in-law, Florence Elizabeth
(Decoste) and William David Pettipas; and brothers-in-law Joey,
Sherman, and Francis Pettipas.
Dad’s work ethic was second to none. He
was a draftsman for over 40 years with A.H. Roy and
Associates. He served as a volunteer bookkeeper for St.
Peter’s Parish, Tracadie for many years and was a dedicated
volunteer groundskeeper for Linwood Recreation. He was a
founding member of Linwood’s outdoor rink and ballfield, two
places where dad could be found most in his younger years.
He is remembered by many for his coaching, his love of sports, and
following or carting his kids and grandkids, nieces and nephews to
their sporting events.
After dad’s retirement, he dedicated his time to
mom (always knowing where she was and when she would be back). He
became an avid gardener and spent a great deal of time at the Aberdeen
fishing. When he wasn’t at the rinks in winter, he
could be found in his chair curled up with Stacy the cat, taking in
the next curling match, baseball or hockey game. Visits from
his grandchildren were always the highlight of the week, and for that,
Papa will live on in their hearts as a guiding force to
them.
We would like to thank the entire oncology and palliative
care team at St. Martha’s for their compassion and support
every step of the way. Dad had too many wonderful nurses and
doctors to name, but we know he would want us to acknowledge the love
and care he received from Dr. Jane Howard who assisted dad most in the
process of letting go. We will forever remember some of his
final words, « I’ll be alright, you’ll be
alright, we all must go. » Until we meet again Dad, your
spirit and wisdom will be with us in everything we do.
As per dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place and
there will be no visitation. Due to Covid restrictions, a
private family funeral will be held on Tuesday, Dec.28th
at St. Peter’s Church, by invitation
only. The funeral will be recorded and available on the
funeral home website later in the day.
In absence of visitation, we ask that you cast a fishing line
or plant a seed in honor of dad’s legacy.
Charitable donations can be made to St. Martha’s Regional
Hospital Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of C.L. Curry
Funeral Home, Antigonish. Online condolences:
