It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony (Bert) Ready age 61 who died on December 28th, 2020 in Quebec City. He was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Jean (Morrissey) Ready, brothers Edward, Allen and Gerard. He is survived by Sisters, Frances, Nora and Myra (Hum) and Brothers, Billy, Freddie and Paul, as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces and grandnieces.
Bert grew up on the Blind Road in Tignish, Prince Edward Island where at a young age he had the good fortune of hearing tales from both Irish and Acadian raconteur storytellers. This exposure instilled a passion to collect material and write and publish his Island Ribald folklore book series, “Good Sainte Anne”, and “Tales from the Brambles”. He was an accomplished writer who was a regular contributor to the island magazine “Red, The Island Story Book”.
A graduate of the University of PEI with a teaching degree, he embarked on his teaching career in Thompson, Manitoba, and he subsequently moved to the province of Quebec to teach in a Private school in Montreal and later joined the faculty of “CEGEP Limoilou” in Quebec City, where he taught until his 2016 retirement. Throughout his storied career, he was a dedicated educator and his passion for teaching was well recognized and admired by both his students and colleagues. Bert used his unique island humour to connect with his students to get his points across. His influences on young minds will always be remembered.
During Bert’s long teaching career beginning in Canada’s Far North, he made some enduring longtime friendships and close friends that he considered family.
In his retirement he developed a keen interest in genealogy and began researching his family tree which resulted in a prized family document that chronicled the storied past of the Morrissey and Ready ancestors’ settlement on Prince Edward Island.
Bert always the entertainer, loved to cook, bake and enjoy a good discussion of politics, life and the weather forecast with family members and friends.
Bert sure loved a good snowstorm!
The family would like to acknowledge and thank all his longtime friends: Stuart, Anne, Linda, Janis K, Janice A, Joan, Dominic and especially Mark, Dirk and Jennifer for their condolences and generous assistance during these trying Covid times.
2021
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Anthony Ready 2021..
