Peacefully, in her sleep, on Saturday, June 12, 2021, one week after her ninety-sixth birthday. Born in Montreal, daughter of the late Joseph and the late Fanny Slutsky. Wife of the late Harry Freed, who was the love of her life until the day he died thirty years ago. She leaves behind her sons Michael and Josh, and three grandchildren Hannaleah Ledwell, with whom she had a special relationship, along with Daniel Freed and Jia Murphy.
Anne was a modern woman many decades before her time – a smart, opinionated, politically active person with a passion for art, classical music, jazz, theatre, cinema, literature, and world cuisine. She was involved in progressive causes for much of her early life and worked first as a mom and later as a restaurant cooking consultant, after years of specializing in cooking spectacular gourmet meals for her family. After Harry’s passing, she spent years on her own on Redpath Avenue, marching cheerfully downtown every day to visit stores and art galleries, or eat out with close friends, Evelyn and Carol Kalichman, Janie Peritz, Arona Nerenberg, and many others.
In recent years, Anne was fortunate to be looked after by Ellen Arroyo and her daughter, Diandra – remarkably kind caregivers who loved her like family. Special thanks to the attentive staff of Westmount One. A private graveside service for family and friends will take place.
Anne was a tiny yet huge fireball of energy and passion who will be much missed by all.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Anne Freed 2021..
