Obituary for
Anna Maria Raso (Ferencz)
RASO (nee Ferenc), Anna Marie – passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 17, 2021 in her 86th year. Anna was born August 3, 1935 in Regec, Hungary to the late Anna (nee Hegedus) and Jozsef Ferenc. Beloved wife of Gabriel Raso. Loving mother of Frank (Anne) and John (Trish DeMille). She was tremendously proud of her grandchildren Catherine, John, Taylor, and Jordan, as well as her extended grandchildren Brennan and Makenna. Anna was a dear sister to; Maria Hanak, Elek Hanak, Jozsef Ferenc, Margit Ferenc, Janos Ferenc, Borbala Ferenc, Imre Ferenc, Balazs Ferenc, and Ilona Ferenc.
Anna came to Canada during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. She and her brother Imre Ferenc (Gizella) were sponsored by her uncle, Lukacs Hegedus, and arrived at Pier 21 in Nova Scotia on 1957-March-23. She was hired immediately and worked as domestic help until she married Gabriel Raso (1961-June-10). She raised 2 boys, Frank (Anne) and John (Trish DeMille). She was tremendously proud of her grandchildren Catherine, John, Taylor, and Jordan, as well as her extended grandchildren Brennan and Makenna.
When her sister, Ilona, came to Canada and married her husband’s brother (Geza Raso), they brought into the close knit family her nephew and godson, Joe (Lorraine Merola) along with his children, Claire and Sophie. Her family further expanded with Imre’s daughters, Elizabeth and Helen and their children and grandchildren. At every family gathering, she loved to meet the multitude of children in her extended family.
She loved to be involved in her children’s lives and, whenever her children had a class trip, she was always one of the volunteers. She was a dedicated volunteer, whether it was as a devoted member of St. John’s Greek Catholic Church or as a Niagara Health Auxilian. She loved volunteering at the Welland Hospital Gift Shop for 18 years and was an enthusiastic fundraiser for the Kidney Dialysis machine.
After Christmas 2020, she took a dramatic turn for the worse and was admitted to the Welland Hospital where she was diagnosed with kidney cancer and released to spend time at home with her family. Her family appreciates the LHIN for the great care from her support workers and nurses. She loved her grandchildren and was overjoyed every time she saw them.
She is now at peace with her Lord and her family.
