Fong, Allan Ying Choy

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Allan Ying Choy
Fong, beloved husband, father and grandfather, at the age of 90.
Husband to his loving wife of 59 wonderful years, Helen Sau Fan (nee Yip), loving father to Jim (Lisa),
Linda (Ed), David (Alana). Cherished and devoted grandfather to Caitlin, Ashley, Emma, Katie, Brandon,
Lia.
Allan will be sadly missed by his numerous siblings, nephews, nieces, extended family and his many
friends.
Dad loved life and most of all, the people in his life. He was born in China, moved to Hong Kong where
he fell in love and married mom. In 1972, the family moved to Canada where dad worked hard to
support his family and give us the opportunity for a great life. On the rare occasions when dad had
some leisure time, he loved to fish and tend to his vegetable and melon garden. After retirement, dad
and mom both had time for traveling, fishing and gardening and most importantly, they had plenty of
time to spend with their beloved grandchildren. Dad loved to cook for them, play with them and help
them with their Chinese homework.
Dad was proud of everyone in his family and his family was even more proud of him. He was joyful,
patient, extremely kind and generous. In his retirement years, he expanded the vegetable and melon
garden, and he shared his bountiful harvest with his family and friends every summer and fall. Working
tirelessly in his garden from morning to night and smiling ear to ear when he was able to share the fruits
of his labour with others. Even last summer, when it became harder for him to work in the garden, he
managed to grow plenty of vegetables and melons and had a wonderful harvest that he was able to
share.
We will all miss dad dearly and he will always be in our hearts. Although we cannot bear to be without
him, we feel fortunate that we were able to spend as many years as we did with him. We will
remember dad always and cherish the time we spent together as a family.
The family would like to thank the dedicated nurses, doctors and care workers who cared for Allan in
hospital and at home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute or the Ottawa Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
