Allan Stewart Swim CM CD BA MED Friday February 5th 2021

It is with profound sadness and loss that the family of Allan Stewart Swim announces his passing on February 5, 2021 at the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater.
Allan was born inLiverpool, N.S. November 19, 1943 to A. Stewart and Phyllis (Norman) Swim.
There is so much to write about Allan’s life. He grew up in Liverpool, moved to Saint John, NB in 1959 with his parents and it was there he started his policing career by joining the Armed Forces Provost Corp and trained to be a military policeman. It was also in Saint John he met the love of his life, Carole who he married in 1966. In 1970 after discharge from the Army he joined the Fredericton Police Force and worked his way up to become the Ident Officer.
In 1976 Allan left the force and became an instructor at the Atlantic Police Academy in Charlottetown, PEI. After nine years he returned to Fredericton to finish his undergraduate degree at St Thomas University.
In 1986 Allan and family moved to the Halifax area where he worked for the Nova Scotia Dept. of Justice and studied for his Masters in Adult Education at Dalhousie University. Then, fulfilling a dream, he went to the Atlantic Police Academy in Summerside, PEI as Director of the Academy. As he was getting close to retirement, he learned he was to receive The Order of Canada after being nominated by his peers for recognition of his involvement in police education nationally and internationally. It was the crowning glory for all his hard and dedicated work. He was very proud as were all of his family and friends.
Allan retired in 2003 and enjoyed a more leisurely life playing golf, travelling to Florida for vacation during the winter months and becoming a certified Bob Ross Oil Painting Instructor. In 2009 we moved to Bridgewater and built a new house, made new friends, spent time with old friends and travelled south.
Then along came Harley (bike) and he was smitten to travel the highways in the open air. Again we met new friends and travelled roads we never knew about. It was a wonderful time spent together. The highlight was riding on our trike up and down Main Street in Daytona, Florida.
Allan is survived by the love of his life, Carole (Cullins); son, Andrew (Lori) Swim, Wellington, NS; daughter, Jane Ann Swim (Brian Johnson) and grandchildren, Abigail and Adam , Yellowknife NT.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Norma (Swim) Yeoh and daughter in law, Marlene (DeAngelis) Swim.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SHAID Animal Shelter or charity of choice in Allan’s memory.
There will be no funeral or visitation due to the Covid Virus. A graveside service will be held at Brookside Cemetery on Friday, February 19 at 2:00 p.m. Father Jim O’Connor officiating.
We would like to thank all the medical staff, nurses, physiotherapists, respiratory therapists, and dietary staff for their care and concern for Allan and his family. Special thanks to Dr. Robertson and Moira.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg.
