Al Corcoran
1951-2021
REXTON, NB – Albert Corcoran 70, of Rexton passed
away peacefully at the Stella Maris Hospital in Ste-Anne-de-Kent on
Thursday, August 5, 2021. Born in Branch, Newfoundland, he
was the son of the late Peter Corcoran and late Hannah (McGrath)
Corcoran.
Al was immensely involved in his community. He filled the
positions of Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Councillor for the Village of
Rexton, Sound Director of St. Andrew’s United Church; as well as a
board member of the Rexton Lions Nursing Home, Rexton Family Housing,
Rexton Seniors Apartments and numerous
others.
In addition to this, he served as 1st
Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and
President of Stevenson Legion Branch #30 for eight years and District
Commander for the Northumberland and Kent region. He was
also President of McMurray Legion Branch
#165.
Al worked at Syncrude Canada as a Millwright for over 25
years, while also owning and operating McMurray Sound Machine for 25
years. Al also served in the military as an officer for five years and
founded Just Al Entertainment.
In compliment with his full career, he was awarded many
prestigious awards such as the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee
Award and the Master Kinsman Award.
Al will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Lynn (Girvan)
Corcoran of Rexton; one daughter, Ceilidh Corcoran; one son, Cristin
Corcoran, both of Edmonton, AB, and two awesome grandchildren, Molly
and Max Pittman.
He is also survived by four sisters, Agnes Nash (William),
Anne-Marie Critch (Leonard), Priscilla Mooney (Chris), all of Branch,
NFL; Winnie Corcoran (Ronnie) of Mount Pearl; three brothers, Hubert
Corcoran (Margie) of Branch, NFL; Peter Corcoran (late Julie) of
Point] Lance, NFL; John Seymour (Mike) of Branch as well as many
nieces and nephews.
All are welcome to the visitation that will be held at
Thompson’s Funeral Home in Richibucto on Sunday from 7-9 pm
(only). A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 9,
2021 at 1:00 pm at the St. Andrew’s United Church in
Rexton. A reception will be held at the Stevenson Legion
Branch #30 in Richibucto following the funeral service. As many know,
Al was always so joyful and full of life, therefore we encourage you
to wear colour, as opposed to black, at the memorial
services.
In addition to the above memorial services, there will be a
second set of services to be held in Branch, Newfoundland. Details to
come.
