Ethel Joan Adye (born December 28, 1932) died peacefully in her home in Westmount, Quebec on December 19th, 2021 just 9 days shy of her 89th birthday. Joan was only daughter of Hugh Mortimer Adye (1903-1933) and Isabel Constance Adye nee Vickers (1906-1954). Raised by her widowed Mother, Joan shared her young life with her cousins in England from both the Adye and Vickers families. This experience fueled a life-long passion for family which she treasured to the end. She traveled and lived in Europe for a number of years in her early adult life before immigrating to Canada, to pursue her teaching career in Montreal. She loved to share her travel and family history stories with others. She maintained her connection to Jersey and visited regularly seeing UK relatives often. Joan will be remembered as independent, self-determining, opinionated, thoughtful, intelligent, hard-working with a very kind, generous heart, a sense of humor and a joy for life. As her mobility declined, accepting help was difficult for her, but she valued friendship and loyalty which brought exceptional care to her making her final years at home comfortable and meaningful.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends on both sides of the Atlantic. May she rest in peace.
