Hébert (Copp),
Mary Adrienne, Aged 84, of West Amherst, NS, passed
away on October 8, 2021 in the Halifax Infirmary at the QE
II.
Born in Amherst on June 9, 1937,
Adrienne was the only child of William (Bill) Copp and Marie (Smith)
Copp.
Adrienne was raised in River Hebert and
attended River Hebert Rural High School. It was there that she met the
love of her life, Gordon Hébert. Following graduation,
Adrienne worked at Nova Scotia Power as a key punch operator in the
billing department.
In 1957, Adrienne and Gord married and
moved to Halifax where they started a family. Halifax would be home
for the next 20 years before they relocated to West Amherst. As a
young wife, mother, and home maker, Adrienne quickly made friends with
other young mothers in her neighbourhood. These women, and their
families, would become her cherished circle of friends for
life.
Adrienne was very active in her church.
She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and supported several charities. An
avid reader, Adrienne assembled an impressive collection of fiction
and non-fiction books. A love of reading and literature was a passion
that she passed on to her children. She also loved animals, especially
cats. She took great pleasure in providing food and shelter for cats
that had been abandoned in her neighbourhood.
In 1977, Adrienne and Gord moved to the
home they built in West Amherst. This was the home they shared
together until the Spring of 2021.
Adrienne and Gordon loved to travel and
over the years they had the good fortune to travel extensively
throughout North America, the Caribbean, and the United Kingdom.
Following Gord’s retirement, they happily returned to
Barbados every winter for the next 20 years where they enjoyed the
company of one other and a close-knit group of Bajan
friends.
In her later years, Adrienne was
diagnosed with dementia; a condition that slowly robbed her of many
memories and simple pleasures. While she continued to be a very social
person, her world gradually shrank. As she had always supported Gord
in his career & business life, he supported her in her time of
need, becoming her fiercely protective advocate and primary care
giver. When Gord was no longer able to care for her due to his own
illness, Adrienne moved to Melville Lodge in Halifax.
She is survived by her children;
Patricia (Kerry) Morash of Beach Meadows; son John (Rose) of Dieppe,
NB; and daughter, Michelle Hébert of Halifax. She will be
greatly missed by her grandchildren, Laura Morash of Toronto, Kathryn
(Alex) Wolf of Pictou, Amanda Hébert of the UK, Ainsley
& Elliott Boyd of Halifax; as well as cherished
great-granddaughters, Arabella & Hayden Wolf.
In addition to her parents, Adrienne was
predeceased by her loving husband, Gordon, on August 1,
2021.
Mom, you will always remain with us in
our memories and our hearts.
