Obituary
It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of Zola Viola Alvena (Sypher) Parks which occurred at her home on Sunday, September 13th, 2020 surrounded by her family. Born June 8th, 1928, in Jemseg, NB, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Viola (Carney) Sypher. She moved to Newcastle Creek at an early age, attended school in Minto and upon graduation was a teacher at the Minto School until she enrolled at the Saint John General Hospital School for Nurses in 1950 and graduated in 1953 with her R.N. Zola worked in Neurosurgery and then private duty until her daughters were born.
Zola was a very dedicated member of St. Mary and St. Bartholomew’s Church and was active in the Alter Guild and A.C.W. Zola could always be found decorating and organizing various events at the church. She enjoyed many trips to Hawaii, Bermuda, cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, also many family trips to New Hampshire and Florida.
In 1984 during the Queens visit to New Brunswick, Zola and her husband Arnold were invited to attend a luncheon and met with Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
Zola is survived by her loving husband Arnold of 67 years; two devoted daughters Victoria and Sonya Jane; sister-in-law Audrey (Harper) Sypher; nieces Heather and Jennifer and nephew Dean. In addition to her parents, Zola was predeceased by her brother Rupert Sypher, sisters-in-law Ethel (Campbell), Lillian (Anderson) and Francis (Leach).

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). A Memorial Service will take place at St. Mary and St. Bartholomew’s Church (646 Westmorland Road) on Wednesday, September 16th at 1 p.m. followed by an interment at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Zola may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
