Obituary of Willis Rutz
Rutz, Willis Earl (retired mechanic and Auto Shop owner) – passed away peacefully at Pembroke Regional Hospital with his family by his side on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, in his 89th year. Willis has now reunited with the love of his life, Helen.
Born and raised in Rankin, Willis will be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends and his willingness to help others. He had a gift and passion for fixing cars early in life and eventually started his own business, “Rutz Auto Service” when he moved from Pembroke back to Rankin to live in the family homestead. A tireless worker, he enjoyed down time playing different instruments and jamming with friends, while the family sang along. He also found peace and solitude when cutting wood and walking in his bush lot.
He had a quirky sense of humour appreciated by those who knew him and he loved to debate issues with anyone and everyone. He always had a drink ready for a neighbour when they dropped by.
Above all, Willis was a devout Lutheran and attended Zion Lutheran Church with his family for many years. He valued family gatherings and celebrating special occasions together. In his later years, he became a caretaker for Helen and missed her greatly when she departed. Now he will play music for her once again.
He will be forever loved and missed by his children: Sandra Hoffman (Terry), Kevin Rutz (Jean), Sheila Slattery (Ted), Heather Quenneville (Maurice), and Darryl Rutz (Jenine). Cherished grandfather of Matthew and Nicholas, the late Michael, Erica, and Katie, Scott and Jessica, Ryan and Curtis, and Brady and Jonah. Son of the late Herbert and Clara Rutz. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be missed by his many friends at Heritage Manor. Special thanks to the staff and nurses at Heritage Manor and also Care Partners who took such special care of our father in his last years.
Due to current restrictions, a private family graveside service was held at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Pembroke. Arrangements entrusted to the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, Pembroke. As an expression of sympathy, donations to Zion Lutheran Church or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Online donations/condolences are available at www.mdbfuneralhome.com.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Willis
