Willis Eugene Wilcox
1928-2020
Mr. Willis Eugene Wilcox, 91, of Seal Cove, Grand Manan, NB,
passed away at The Grand Manan Hospital, on Friday, September 4, 2020,
with his loving wife Thelma by his side.
Willis was a very well-liked and respected man in his
community. He was a member of the Seal Cove Wesleyan Church, until it
closed on December 31st, 2016. Nothing was more
important to him than the Amazing Grace of his Lord and Savior, and
his family. Willis taught Sunday School for 50 years, and was a
fisherman for over 30 years. He had a nickname for everyone, and he
always had a story. Willis spied Thelma in a dory when she was
visiting Grand Manan from McAdam, not ever knowing who she was; he
said « She is the one for me! » Thelma was sixteen at the
time. Willis lived with The Catch of his life for 70 years. The
railroad girl had become a fisherman’s
wife.
Willis is survived by his wife Thelma (Nason) Wilcox, of Seal
Cove, two daughters, Celia (Stanley) Fleet, of Castalia, Joyce
(Phillip) Moore, of Fredericton, NB; one son Curtis Wilcox of North
Head; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren, and two great
great grandchildren. Willis was the son of the late Leland and Clara
(Schofield) Wilcox; he was from a large family of twelve children.
Willis is also survived by two sisters, Lydia Parker, of Castalia, and
Ella Cary of Woodward’s Cove. Willis is predeceased by four
sisters, Alta Ingersoll, Esther Allen, Nellie Wilcox, Kathleen Wilcox;
five brothers Hollis, Manson, Lester, Walter and infant Donny. He will
be missed by his family, extended family, many
nieces, nephews, and friends.
There will be a Celebration of Life by
invitation.
Our family expresses great appreciation to Hallie Bass NP, NB
Extra Mural, the EMT’s, and the Dr’s, Nurses and
Staff of the Grand Manan Hospital for their excellent care. Also,
thanks to so many others for your love, support and acts of kindnesses
shown to us.
