Bill will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 59 years Winnifred and the children he was so proud of Louise (Fred) Price, Bruce (Myrna) Chafe, Brian, Derek (Michelle) Chafe, Heather (Bill) Chafe Jennifer (Heln) Oosthuizen, Roger Chafe, grandchildren William Chafe, Frederick Price, Kayla Chafe, Jacob Chafe, Ethan Oosthuizen, Ashton Oosthuizen, Charlie Chafe, Bradley Chafe and one great grandchild Frederick Price along with a large group of nieces and nephews.
Bill started out his life as a teacher with Her Majesty’s Penitentiary in the early sixty`s he was then hired as a high school principle in Long Harbour. He was passionate about teaching and often said of those he taught at the penitentiary « There but for the grace of God there go I« . This understanding provided him with the foundation to be an exceptional teacher with a willingness to serve. He met and married his wife to be in Long Harbour while teaching there and as his family began to grow, he joined his father at his men`s clothing business where he carried on the tradition of William L. Chafe & Son Ltd. and served the public for over 60 years in this capacity. He grew the business with his own sons and wife who still operate the business today.
Bill was an avid stamp collector he also spent many years collecting antiques wherever his travels took him. Many of these antiques are still showcased at his residence today. He loved to travel but also enjoyed spending time at his cabin with his family.
His family would like to thank the staff of Pleasant View Towers for their care in his last days. Special thank you for the care provided by Dr. Connors, Dr. Jewer, Dr. Hewitt, Dr. O`Keefe, Dr. Parsons, Dr. H. Oosthuizen, Dr. Jat and Dr. B. Howlett.
