Obituary
It is with sorrow we announce the passing of Walter “Wally” Martyniuk. Wally passed away Sunday, December 22nd, at Swan Valley Lodge in Creston, British Columbia at the age of 76.
Wally was born in Vegreville, Alberta, on July 7th, 1943, to Walter and Anne Martyniuk. He spent his early twenties enlisted with Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, recalling his time there fondly, speaking often of working with the horses, particularly « Citation Mike ». Wally’s most notable career to his friends and family was his many years of driving truck. An avid storyteller, he told countless tales of his time on the road and took time to reflect on his adventures with his family and friends.
Anyone that knew Wally was drawn to his zest for life and animated conversation. He loved his family dearly, always there with advice and a helping hand. He will always be remembered as endlessly active, working toward one project or another. Whether it be constructing a stone wall in the backyard or building his own immaculate garages. Wally sought adventure and enjoyed spending his time in the mountains, sharing his passion with those dear to him through jeeping, side-by-siding, and quading. He had a knack for finding the most difficult trails with the most spectacular views. Another pastime that Wally loved was fishing, his numerous catches displayed proudly in photos throughout his home.
Wally is survived by his common-law partner Karen Lutz, his brother Willy and his wife Shirely Martyniuk, his sister Sonia and her husband Jim Pillott, his sister Debbie Brown, his brother Jerry Martyniuk, his son Colhane and his wife Lesley Martyniuk, his daughter Donna and her husband Dave Leslie, and his grandchildren Laura Normand, and Jacob and Joel Martyniuk. He is predeceased by his parents Walter and Anne Martyniuk, and his sister Evangaline Martyniuk.
A Celebration of Wally’s Life will be held at the Creston Legion at 11:00 a.m. on January 23rd, 2020. Reverend Harry Haberstock will officiate.
A reception will follow immediately afterward.
