L. Virginia Meachin

Following a few difficult months battling with health problems, the end came quickly and peacefully for Virginia. Predeceased by her beloved husband John, who she missed constantly, and her father, John (Jack) Black, and mother, Lorna (Black) Rindal, she is survived by her brother Jack (Lisa), nephew Rob, nieces Nicole and Kari, all in Florida, and several cousins throughout the west.
Virginia had a varied and interesting life. Educated in Vancouver, she taught school in the Yukon and North Vancouver, worked as a flight attendant for Canadian Pacific Airlines visiting many countries and developing an intense love of travel. She formed her own travel agency, Sea to Sky Travel Ltd, running ski tours for visitors to Whistler. She branched into the area of cruise travel enjoying adventures with groups and individually.
Virginia became part of a fitness club when she moved to a townhouse in 2006 and met a great group of women who became a meaningful part of her social life. The friendship provided many wonderful moments and in the last few years became ever more important to her.
Another talent she developed was Ikebana. She was active with a group in Vancouver. One of her last major trips was to Japan to take in some special exhibits and demonstrations of the art form.
Virginia loved a good party, she loved jazz, and nothing pleased her more than organizing both to come together to entertain friends. She was an excellent party planner with fun and laughter always ensuing especially if a theme or costume was involved. She wanted her life to be celebrated with a similar event and when current restrictions are lifted a party will be planned.
She gave regularly to a variety of charities and would be grateful to be remembered with a memorial gift to a charity of choice. She favoured Canadian Diabetes Association and Doctors without Borders.
Thanks go to all those friends of many years who were so attentive over the past few months bringing meals, driving her to appointments, shopping for her, and watching over her. She had a strong support group and it helped her immensely. Thanks also to the kind support from the doctors in private practice and at Lions Gate Hospital and all those who looked after her physical needs.
