With sadness we announce that Violet Merrick left on her journey to the Spirit World on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 69 years.
Violet was born December 4, 1951 at Birtle Hospital. Violet was a very wise, humble, kind and caring person and she loved her family. She always had time to listen and give guidance to everyone she knew or met. Violet loved to talk, laugh and reminisce, and always enjoyed company, especially her grandchildren. She always enjoyed listening to her sons William and Fred playing guitar and singing her favorite tunes. Violet cared and thought about everyone. She decided to go to college and pursue a career as a Health Care Aide. She graduated with honours and worked at Long Plain First Nation Home and Child Care facilities for a number of years before she retired. Violet lived her life to the fullest, achieved her dreams and aspirations, never gave up and always persevered. She inspired and encouraged her family to pursue and achieve their own dreams and aspirations. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her but she will never be forgotten and will always remain in our hearts and memory.
Left to cherish Violets memory are her sons Marcel Benn, William Benn (Vanessa), Fred Acoby (Sharon) and Terry Merrick, sisters Verna Warner (Len), Alice (Hubert), Priscilla Benn and Teena Benn, brothers Elvan Benn (Donna), Carl Benn (Mary Ann), grandchildren Rayleen, Alex, Shania, Jayden, Shawna, Taylor, Destiny, Zakk and Creedence and great grandchildren Alley and Violet as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Violet was predeceased by her mother Lillian Benn, father Earl Wolfe, grandparents Thomas and Mary Benn, husband Roger Merrick Sr., son Roger Merrick Jr., granddaughter Paige, her twin sister who died at birth, and brothers Faron Benn, Delaney Wolfe, Marshall Benn and Cliften Benn.
Private family services will be held. Burial will take place at Merrick Cemetery.
