Vaughn C. Baxter
1947-2020
Imagine a world where no music was playing,
and think of a church with nobody
praying.
Have you ever looked up at a sky with no
blue?
Then you’ve seen a picture of
us without you.
We feel tears welling up from deep inside,
our hearts are on a big
break.
Like a stab of loneliness sharp
and painful that we may never
shake.
We announce the passing of
Vaughn Claude Baxter, age 73, of
Northport, NS.
Vaughn passed away peacefully with his
family by his side at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on
Thursday, December 10, 2020.
Born in North Greenville, NS, he was a
son of the late Claude and Gladys (Weatherbee) Baxter.
Vaughn, known to many as Papa Smurf,
spent the majority of his life in « God’s Country »,
Northport, NS. He spent his working life operating various
heavy equipment at Atlantic Industries Limited (AIL), along with
fishing and farming. He also owned and operated a local waste
collection business along the Northumberland Strait for many
years.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed every
hunting season in the Jersey woods; in his deer stand waiting for his
next big buck. He looked forward to his annual fishing trips in PEI
with his good buddies. He was crafty and took pleasure in creating a
new Christmas decoration for his children every year that are
cherished today. He loved carving, painting, woodworking, rug hooking,
playing cards, and puzzles. He enjoyed spending time with his dog;
Buck, children, grandchildren, and his beloved wife Barb.He treasured
good times with family, admired old cars, and listened to classic
country music of some of the great legends, especially George Jones.
His funny quotes and profane wit will never be forgotten. He was a
high-tech red neck who had choices, you could never put that possum in
a cage and he definitely didn’t need no rocking chair. Lord
we wonder, who’s going to fill his shoes?
He will be dearly missed by his loving
wife who never left his side in 51 years, Barb Baxter, Northport, NS;
his children Vaughn (Lisa Fowler) of Amherst, NS, Michele Baxter (Jeff
Wight) of Waverley, NS, Danny (Pam Irvine) of Upper Sackville, NS, and
Kelly (Whitney Higgins) of Dartmouth, NS; grandchildren Nathan Baxter,
Ashley Fowler, Ashlyn Wight, Brookelyn Baxter, and Carson
Higgins;Brothers, Carl (Sandy) Baxter, Ricky (Linda) Baxter, and
Douglas (Kathy) Gay; Sisters, Georgie Weatherbee, Beryl (Phillip)
Atkinson, Dorothy (Bill) Smith, Phyllis (Pete) Roberts, Dawn (Robert)
Maclean, Diane (Doug) Gay, Sharon (Ron) Gay, Suzanne (Gordie) Cooper
Campbell, Christina (Mark) Tanner, Jamie Baxter, Michael Baxter; along
with several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his infant son
Ronald; and brothers Dale (Beaver) Gay, Cecil Baxter, and his chosen
son, Larry Brander.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the

St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) Cremation has taken place. A graveside
