It is with deepest sorrow we announce that Timothy Brian Scaber, most beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on December 16, 2020 at the young age of 50. Tim’s passing leaves behind his incredibly loving and supportive wife Tanja, mother Linda, father Victor, brother Todd (Heather), sister Jennifer (Steve), stepfather Mike, dog Diesel, in-laws, and countless friends. He will always be “Uncle Buddy” to his nieces Jessie, Cassie, Chloe, and Payton. Tim married his best friend in May 2020, and it was one of the happiest, proudest moments of his life. Tim fought a 2-year battle against brain cancer with unwavering strength, courage, resilience, and optimism.
Tim grew up on the Peninsula and graduated from Stelly’s High School. His work ethic was very strong, and he immersed himself in many activities. Tim had a background in horticulture and farming and had a long history with Vantreight Farms, working in the fields and operating the greenhouses. He also worked as Parks Foreman for City of Colwood for several years. Tim earned his Architectural Sheet Metal Certification later in life and most recently enjoyed working at Parker Johnston Industries. Tim had a creative mind and loved being outside designing and building things. He built amazing fences and planter boxes and rediscovered his passion for gardening in the past few years, spreading cheer and vegetables throughout his neighbourhood.
Tim was always an incredible athlete and loved hockey, fastball, and golf the most, but his competitive spirit showed up almost everywhere, including bowling, ping pong, and crib. Tim worked incredibly hard to be the best at everything he did and wanted to help others be their best as well. There are too many trophies, awards, and highlights to mention them all, but Tim was especially proud of playing for teams like Payless, Victoria Merchants, Sawyer’s, and Fine Line. Tim was named All-World Second Team at ISCs in 1997, MVP at the NAFA Championship in 1998 and All-World at the NAFA Championship in 2001. Tim played fastball in New Zealand, trained with Team Canada, and caught for some of the best pitchers in the world. Tim finished his fastball career with many of his buddies, playing for Braves and Sooke Loggers, still hitting home runs. Tim was a fierce competitor on-field and full of fun and laughter after the games. Tim played Junior B hockey and was an avid Royals fan. On the golf course amongst his friends, Tim earned the titles of Island Champ and Intercontinental Champ, winning tournaments in Courtenay and Mexico. The Okanagan Championship eluded him. Tim also loved being on the water and spent hours fishing on his white boat named “Big Red”.
From an early age, Tim had a love of animals. His life included cats, dogs, birds, horses, chickens, pigs, goats, and cows. He even raised bees. Tim had an unforgettable impact on the people he knew. If Tim loved someone, they knew it. He loved to joke and tease, always with kindness and to brighten someone’s day. Tim’s heart was so big, and he wanted people to be happy and just enjoy life. Tim was full of life, love, and laughter and he was taken from us far too soon. He will be deeply missed every single day.
A graveside service was conducted by GT Church Pastor Andy Moore at St. Stephen’s Church Cemetery on December 28, 2020. A celebration of Tim’s life will be planned once COVID allows. If you would like to make a donation in Tim’s honour or share photos from Tim’s life, please contact his wife Tanja at tl.bullock@shaw.ca.
