It is with great sadness we are announcing the death of Theresa Marie Klatt, a wife, mother, sister and long-term resident of Trail, BC. She died unexpectedly of complications of pneumonia and a long battle of COPD & emphysema on March 30th, 2020 in the early morning at the age of 72.
Theresa survived by her husband Walter Klatt; her children: Tamara Klatt, Lela Klatt, Franklin & Tracy Smith and those she thought of as her kids Cherie Willier and Tanya Okemow who she helped her sister Audrey raise; her grandchildren: Samuel Klatt, Adrianah O’Farrell, Abigail Andrews, Ryan and Kyle Smith; her siblings: Colleen, Audrey, Dennis, Mark, Harry, Donald, Georgina.
She was predeceased by her mother and father Rosalie & Fredrick Cunningham, brothers: Harvey, Charles, Randy and sister Myrtle Cunningham.
Theresa was born in High Prairie, Alberta. She worked as a nurse’s aide and foster parent for many years as well as a chambermaid but her main love was being a devoted stay at home mother/housewife. She was a mother figure to most. She had the biggest of hearts and would do anything for those she loved and cared about, always made sure the people who she met felt right at home. She often enjoyed baking and making up her own recipes that she never wrote down but would always try and make it the same if her family enjoyed it. She loved to laugh about her « youth » and tell her stories of her growing up, one of her favourites was the time with the chicken feathers in the car. She loved the smell of Rain and the sound of thunderstorms. One of her favourite songs was Amazing Grace and The Little Drummer Boy during Christmas.
Theresa loved her grandchildren like they were her own, she loved the time she played « mouse and Squirrel » with Adrianah and cuddling up to Abigail and watching Treehouse and watching her dance and sing. She was very proud of her grandsons Samuel, Ryan and Kyle for who they were and loved them even more for being true to who they are today.
Theresa met her best friend Walter over 50 years ago, but they legally married in August of 1975. They loved to travel together and visit with family in Alberta as often as they could. These two had one of the most unique and special bonds any couple could have, and it was the definition and proof of true love.
We are not holding a funeral for Theresa Klatt as per her request. She will be cremated, and her ashes will be spread on her parent’s grave in Peavine Alberta. We ask for privacy but if anyone would like to give donations or condolences during this unbelievably tough time while we take the time to grieve and heal please Text Tamara Klatt at 250-231-5302 or Email Tamara.Klatt@yahoo.com for arrangements.
