Thelma’s Obituary
Thelma Gertrude Peck
February 18, 1942 – November 7, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thelma Peck of Kingston on November 7, 2020, in the Soldier’s Memorial Hospital in Middleton, where she was lovingly surrounded by members of her immediate family during her final days.
Thelma is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Bob; daughter Kim, Summerside, sons, Mike (Terri), Dartmouth, and Greg (Mary), Kingston, brother, John (Lynda) Pierce, Kingston; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her parents and granddaughter Erica.
Born in Middleton, Thelma was the daughter of the late Winifred (Armstrong) and Allison Pierce. After high school, Thelma attended the Miss Murphy’s Business College and in 1960, Thelma married her high school sweetheart, Bob. Over the years, Bob’s career had them residing in Lahr, Germany, Cold Lake, Alberta, and Summerside, PEI, but they always returned home to the Kingston area. Never one to be idle, Thelma worked for many companies including Avon, the Aurora Inn, Thompson Jewelers, and was instrumental in O.H. Armstrong’s; helping to grow that business into Cape Breton. She was even a fan-favorite Radio DJ while living in Cold Lake.
Thelma and Bob loved to travel, especially RVing, snowmobiling and most recently side-by-siding, and loved spending winters in Florida (18 of them!). Always, very civic-minded, Thelma gave a helping hand everywhere she went; volunteering at hospitals, The Kingston United Baptist Church, helping to organize the Kingston Steer BBQ for many years, Red Cross, elections, and dog therapy. Thelma’s faith was important to her as well and she loved to go to church, serving the Ladies Auxiliary and singing in the choir. She enjoyed spending time with family and looked forward to occasions that brought her family together, often for a wonderful meal, as well as treasured times spent at the family property in Margaretsville. Thelma loved the many dogs she had over the years, most recently her beloved Buttons. Thelma enjoyed life and will be remembered for her kind heart, warm spirit and her giving nature. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Special thanks to the many health care professionals at Soldier’s Memorial and to Ruth Mapplebeck, who assisted Thelma with compassion and kindness. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Middleton Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place at 2pm on Friday, November 13th at Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 Middleton, NS, officiated by Reverend Barbara Bishop. Interment in North Kingston Cemetery. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the service will be by invitation only. Livestreaming will be available for friends and family that cannot attend the service.
