Small, Shirley Arlene Agnes
Shirley Small of Meaford, and formerly of Hamilton, passed away suddenly yet peacefully in Meaford on Friday, May 29, 2020 in her 71st year.
Born on January 2, 1950, Shirley was a daughter of the late Christopher and Lorna (nee Foster) Johnston. She was predeceased by her beloved son Don in 2017, her brother Daryl in 2018, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Shirley will be missed dearly by her daughter-in-law Karen Small and her adored grandsons Dray and Emmett of Dundas. She will be remembered fondly by her sister Christena Foster of Hamilton, sister-in-law Dale Jerome Johnston of Ancaster, aunt Shirley Jackman (late Terry) of Meaford, and by her many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families from Alberta to P.E.I., Australia and England.
Shirley was very artistic and her floral arrangements will be remembered from far and wide. One of her favourite pastimes was watching and feeding the birds that she could see from her living room window. Family, friends and celebrations were very important to Shirley and some special memories and places come to mind, such as trips to Moon River, Foster’s cottage on the Beaver River, and special drives with the top down in the Mustang in search of poutine. Many of us will remember her saying “I don’t drink rum!” Shirley always had a kind word and a smile, she was truly a beautiful and loving person with a gentle soul.
At Shirley’s request there will be no service and cremation will take place. There will be a celebration of Shirley’s life at a later date when restrictions are lifted and friends and family can safely gather.
