Shirley Hicks
1932-2020
Shirley Louise Hicks (Wall), 87, of
Petitcodiac, N. B. passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 19, 2020 in
the Palliative Care Unit of the Moncton Hospital.
Shirley was the daughter of the late
Marvin and Leota Wall. Born in Cape Tormentine, N.B. on Dec. 2, 1932,
Shirley is predeceased by husband Ralph Arnold Hicks; brothers Billy,
Melvin, Darrell, Sherman Wall; sister Doreen Fisher (Wall); son-in-law
Junior Chappell; grandchildren, Ross and Stuart Chappell (Dana and
Junior Chappell).
Shirley graduated from Port Elgin High
School, N.B., worked at Eaton’s in Moncton and was a loving
and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who took
pride in being a homemaker and nurturing others. She fostered
children, was a member of Highfield Street Baptist Church and then in
later years First North River Baptist Church where she served as a
Sunday School Teacher and cooked many pots of baked beans for the
church suppers. She was also a literacy mentor, loved a
great game of Scrabble and always kept up with current events, reading
the newspaper daily from cover to cover until her eyesight failed
her.
Shirley is survived by her children Kirk
(Crystal) Hicks, Brenda (Mark) Smith, Debbie (John) Wesselius, Dana
Chappell; foster son Stanley(Carrie) MacKay; grandchildren Kyle
& Kent Hicks, Charissa & David Smith, Lee, Jeffrey,
Clark & Adrian Wesselius, Kathryn (Jack) Bouchard, Emily
Carson; great grandchild Tyson Bouchard.
Arrangements are in the care of the
Salisbury Funeral Home (506-372-4800). No visitation or funeral will
be held. There will be a private family graveside service at the First
North River Baptist Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff at
Fawcett’s Special Care Home for their excellent care over
the past two years, as well as the staff of the Moncton Hospital
Palliative Care Unit.
