It was in deep sadness that we announced the passing of Shirley Elizabeth Barcelo (Jake) wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Shirley leaves to mourn her loving husband Ron, daughters, Patricia of Edmonton, Vickie of Sherwood Park and Peg of Summerland BC a sister of Irene from 100 mile house, brother-in-law Leonard Barcelo from Quesnel, sister-in-law Bea and Bob Fraser from White-rock BC and sister-in-law Sharon from Castlegar, BC Shirley has numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Shirley was born in Winfield Alberta, to Edward Evelena Jake on February 12, 1938. She was home schooled from grade 1 and 2 along with her older brothers, John and Billy, then the whole family moved by train Newton BC. After 1 year the family moved again this time to Port Coquitlam BC. After moving through several different schools Shirley ended school in Port Moody. Shirley was thinking of enterprising was to make a few dollars: selling seed and peeling cascara bark. Next, she moved to Cawston BC to stay with Aunt Gwen and worked at the Rowcliff Cannery, and it was there she found her love of her life Ron Barcelo. They were married on August 20, 1955, although some people said it would never last because they were so young, they would have celebrated there 65 years wedding anniversary this summer.
There two daughters Pat and Vickie were born in Royal Columbia Hospital in New Westminster BC. A son in Penticton BC died at birth. A year later Pag was born in Edmonton Alberta.
Early in their marriage they moved around a lot a Ron worked in construction. The finally settled in south cooking lake where they had their new home built 40 years ago. Shirley was very athletic and an excellent bowler and played softball as a pitcher. She was also Brownie and guide leader, plus she worked full time at Canada Cup.
A celebration of here life will be held later.
We would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the Royal Alex Hospital, in Edmonton for there excellent care for Shirley in here last weeks of her life.
