It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Robert Murray Balfour in his 88th year. After a lengthy illness, he slipped away peacefully in his sleep, with family by his side. Murray was predeceased by his loving wife Carole (nee Melito) and his mother Christena MacDonell of Lanark County. Loving father to Judy, Wendy (Rick), Janet (Steve) and Terri. Brother to Tom Dunlop, (Cheryl). Grandfather to Stephen, Janelle, Jennifer (Kevin), Mark, Christine, Patricia (Luke), Stephanie, Jacob and Emily. Great Grandfather to Colton, Matthew and Jaxson.
Murray spent most of his life in the Nursery and Garden Centre business. Operating Dixie Gardens Nursery in Mississauga and then Evergreen Acres Nursery in Milton (Hornby). His hobbies included hunting, repairing and restoring antique clocks, Hockey night in Canada, and reading. He never stopped learning. He was a Horologist (clock repair), and instructed at George Brown College. He was passionate about growing garlic and other food organically, and always had a large vegetable garden. He was a man of few words, very quick witted with a great sense of humour! Murray was admired by so many and touched the lives of all who knew him.
On this day we all have lost a great man, great father and a great friend. Murray’s presence will be terribly missed but he will forever be in our hearts. God Bless You, Rest In Peace.
